Now that that has been enabled, we can close the game. WHERE TO INSTALL MODS/CC –. All.package files that you have downloaded can be moved to the following folder: Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4 Mods. Please note that with The Sims 4, you do not need a Package folder within the Mods folder (like we had to do for The Sims 3). When The Sims Team releases a new patch for The Sims 4, remove all your CC/Mods before installing the patch. Websites such as The Sims Resource and Mod The Sims are great providers of Custom Content and Mods for any The Sims Game. Creators from those websites have already started releasing content for The Sims 4.
'Mods' short for modifications, are user-created files which modify or add more to the regular game. Since Sims 2 was released, fans have been creating mods and sharing them online. The options for mods are pretty diverse. I've seen everything from one for The Sims 2 which added horses to the game (and yes, Sims could even ride them— and this was way before the Pets expansion pack added horses to The Sims 3), to one for The Sims 3 which added in a working ferris wheel.
Some are much less complex, just restructuring the regular game files to add in or change things (like a Sims 3 mod which allows late night bars to stay open 24 hours instead of closing at 2 a.m., or the most famous mod of all, the one that removes the pixelation on nude Sims and replaces it with body parts).Whether you're new to the modding world or can't run a Sims game without custom content (CC) and mods, here are some great Sims 4 mods that every Simmer will want to add to their game! This article will be regularly updated to include the newest/coolest mods! I can't play my game without this one- and it's a BIG one in the Sims community. MC Command Center is what we used to know as 'story progression,' which wasn't included in The Sims 4. It allows your neighborhood to grow and thrive without your direct interaction. These first two require the Get to Work expansion pack, but both are well worth adding if you've bought the EP. Thanks to Sims 4 modder extraordinaire, Zerbu, there are now a lot of ways to enjoy working and going to school in The Sims 4, the first of which is the Go to School mod.If you've ever wanted to go to school with your children and teen Sims, here's your chance. The Go to School mod allows you to follow your children or teens to elementary or high school.
It works similar to the active careers brought into the game with the GTW EP; as your child/teen Sim, you have to complete a number of tasks each day (like painting, socializing with classmates, playing instruments, etc.) to get a gold medal at the end of the day. Your school performance plays a part in your overall grade, so make sure your Sims are working their hardest in class.Don't worry, though— it's not all work and no play.
The mod adds in random events, like field trips (your Sims will randomly be transported somewhere in town, like a museum or park, and have 'field trip' activities to do instead), and school dress-up day, where all your classmates come dressed in costumes. You can even choose to skip school and play hooky, if you want— there's now a 'hooky' skill that your Sim can work on to evade school with no negative effects.here and make sure you follow ALL the directions on Zerbu's page to get it to work correctly, and don't forget to download an elementary and high school for your town.
You can also find my CC-free school creations under the gallery by searching 'brittpinkie' as well. This link will bring you to the newest version, V4, which includes new interactions, NPCs, a teaching career and a lot more:)If you want to play without Zerbu's mod, read my article. Continuing on with the food theme, it's definitely worth highlighting these two mods by the super-talented modder, icemunmun. The first of the two is the. This mod adds in the Canning Station from the Sims 3 and gives your Sims the ability to can 15 different preserves (everything from honey spread to mango chutney), which give off some unique buffs when your Sims consume them!
There's also a 10-level Canning Skill associated with the mod! This is a great mod for anyone who liked the Canning Station from The Sims 3 or who is looking for a new activity for their Sims to enjoy in the game.icemunmun also brought back The Sims 3's! This mod brings 10 new cotton candy flavours and buffs to go with all of them. It's definitely worth checking out all of as she does lots of nice food-related ones. You can never have enough food in the game! All iterations of The Sims games have come with careers created by the fans, but The Sims 4 is finally getting a few custom careers of its own. We do have to thank the talented Neia for creating her modding tool, which has allowed modders to easily create customer careers of their own.
Here are some of my favourite custom careers:. Coolspear1 hasn't created completely new careers, but instead did. It's best to just read the descriptions for a full explanation of all the things that were changed, but it's mostly things that will make the careers feel more realistic and seamless during gameplay (like increasing the chance of emergencies in the Doctor career, or adding more co-workers to both careers).
I love the! She's taken the work at home mechanism which comes with the City Living expansion pack and applied it to several base-game careers, including Astronaut, Tech Guru, Painter, Culinary, Entertainer, Business, Athlete, and Writer, so that your Sims can choose whether to go to work each day or stay home and complete tasks. Of course, City Living is required, but these are great additions to the game, especially for Sims who have children at home or other hobbies where they may need to have a more flexible home/work life. I have to mention! She's created several new 'realistic' careers for the game, like Law Career, Education Career, Architect, Military and even a Self-Employment Career. These are some great options for players who enjoy more realistic game play, rather than having Sims who have the outlandish sort of jobs that come in the game (I mean, come on- not everyone grows up to be an astronaut or rock star!). More new careers are coming out each day!
Check out like Game Developer, Adventurer, Real Estate, Hacker, Nursing, Florist, and Tarot Card Reader! Meanwhile, don't forget checking out; there's tons of cool careers there too from different modders, including Talk Show Host, Mortician, Dog Walker and Photographer! Want to give your Sims the lifestyle of the rich and famous? Then try out!
This mod adds tons of new gameplay, including skills (Simstagram Skill), fame levels, buffs, new interactions and animations, fans and paparazzi and more! This mod is really fun and in-depth due to all the cool abilities Sacrificial created for it. It feels more like an official expansion pack due to the depth, and is definitely a good pack for anyone who misses the celebrity elements from The Sims 3. Sacrificial also updates the mod regularly (and if you subscribe to his Patreon page, you can get updates as soon as he releases them) and adds new, fun elements. Are you frustrated that your cats and dogs aren't playable in The Sims 4? Well, you can download and play as your cat and dog! Of course, you'll need The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs expansion pack for this to work, but this mod unlocks the ability to select your cat or dog as a playable character in the game.It does have some basic interactions that you can do as a pet, such as 'investigate' or 'perform routine', but I like this mod because it allows you to select your pet and stop them from doing certain interactions, force them do interactions (like eat, sleep, play, etc.), and you can actually look at their needs, which was previously locked without the mod. This is a must-have mod for anyone with the Cats & Dogs EP!
If you're looking for another supernatural-themed mod, then you should definitely try out the! This mod allows your Sims to become a sorcerer (either good or bad!), and gives them the ability to cast spells! You can manipulate the freewill of other Sims, work on the Black Arts Skill or the White Arts Skill, choose to devote yourself to the Light or Dark side, have a magical connection between other Sims, and even Teleport! This is another really well developed mod with tons of abilities, traits, skills, and more that'll give you hours of additional game play! I don't know about you, but I've been dying for The Sims 4 to create a beach vacation world. Thankfully, while we wait for the official beach world to come out (if it ever does), we can play with Nandos and SimsFans'!This mod needs The Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat game pack to work, and once you install it, it'll transform Granite Falls into Granite Beach!
The mod replaces the woodsy exterior of Granite Falls into a tropical destination, with beaches, waterfalls and volcanoes in the distance, sand on the ground, and even new beach-themed lots. Zerbu (the above creator of the Go To School mod) also made new traits for this mod ('Relaxer' and 'Beach Junkie'), and there's even new CAS clothing that will look great on your beach-going Sims.I really love this mod! I don't keep it in my game all the time, but I love putting it in when my Sims want to take a tropical vacation and relax on the beach!.Please note that while the mod's download page is in German, the mod itself is in English!
Sims 4 modders have been creating custom traits and aspirations for quite some time now, and there are TONS out there. You can browse the traits and aspirations tags on or, but here are some of my favourite custom traits and aspirations, that I think are worth a mention:.
For some reason, Get To Work didn't include any aspirations to go with its new careers, but uber-talented modder, Konansock fixes that with his! This mod adds 4 new aspirations to the game, which go with the Get to Work careers, Detective, Doctor and Scientist, and a bonus Frankenstein aspiration.
All of these aspirations come with new interactions and buffs, and really add some new elements and fun to the Go to Work careers!. Maybe this isn't a very 'glamourous' one, but it definitely adds realism: the! This mod/trait gives your Sims acne breakouts, and the ability to bathe to remove them. I think this is a great one for teen Sims, and it's just a really fun, realistic detail for the game., including the Romance, Knowledge, Family and Grow Up Aspirations! These are great new aspirations to add to your game, especially for any Sims 2 fans who miss the aspirations from The Sims 2. Piebaldfawn created an!
As someone who has worked in the Autism community for years, this is one that's near and dear to my heart. It gives your sims different buffs (like 'sensory overload' and 'enjoying routine') and it takes these Sims longer to form friendships.
They will also have special whims that sometimes people with ASD might have, like 'be alone' or 'question emotion.' This is a really special trait, and I particularly love the thought that went into it.
Finally, while the doesn't add any NEW mods or aspirations to the game, it does add the ability to randomize traits and aspirations when creating Sims. This is great for someone who has a hard time picking and choosing aspirations or traits to give their Sims, or for those of us (like myself) who just use the same traits over and over again, essentially recreating the same Sims with each new game play. This one doesn't add to the actual game play, but it's definitely a must-have if you're a generations-type player, or anyone who plays the game for more than a few days. Here's the thing: The Sims 4 has a huge glitch in it, where it culls (deletes) Sims from your neighborhood bin. This happens after an in-game week, or when your population reaches over 200.
The game does this to keep things running smoothly, which seems great in theory, but the problem comes with whom it chooses to cull— anyone your Sims haven't interacted with lately— so that might be old friends, old family, or even ghosts. This causes a bunch of problems; relationships already decay quickly in the game, so that best friend you haven't called in a few weeks? Well, she's deleted now. Oh, and that ghost in your family tree? Well, now it's been culled from the game and that spot in your family tree is vacant:(The (again, by the talented Neia) does exactly what it says, and it's essential for anyone who wants to keep their family trees intact and play with all the Sims they've created or befriended. You can easily do your own culling by periodically going through the neighborhood menu and deleting Sims manually (and you can keep an eye on your population by downloading this ). This is a must-have for any player, in my opinion!
I am so excited!! I was a avid Sims 2 player back in the day!! My game was filled with custom content which I loved!!
I never got into Sims 3 because I didn’t wanna give up Sims 2.I had some awesome stuff in that game. Well I’m ready to try Sims 4-especially since I found your page! My daughter plays it & it looks really interesting!
I’m gonna miss my Sims having their own cars but there are some other pretty cool things in Sims 4 that might make up for it!! Thanks for explaining everything & I look forward to playing again!!!. If you’re a Sims player who’s never delved into the world of mods and CC before, getting started with customizing your game can feel overwhelming. Where do you even start looking? Where do all those files go? Don’t mods and CC give you viruses? What do all these techy terms mean?
How To Install Mods Sims 4 Macbook
Why do all your mods keep breaking whenever you update the game? How do you fix it?The good news is modding your game isn’t as hard as you think. Sims Community is here to help. We’ll be clarifying any technical terms you might come across while looking for mods and CC, dispelling common myths about mods and CC, and walking you through the process of installing and maintaining your mods and CC step-by-step.
Glossary of TermsBefore you do anything, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the following terms. You’ll come across them a lot, both here, and elsewhere online.
If you don’t know what these terms mean, you’ll struggle to understand how to customize your game.Mods: Game modifications made by fans of the game. These modifications change the way your game behaves. There are small mods that make minor changes to the game, but there are also very large mods that completely overhaul existing features in the game or add brand new features to the game. Mods need to be updated frequently to keep your game running well.CC: Stands for custom content. CC is content created by fans of the game. CC can be anything; clothes, hair, skins, eyes, makeup, new build/buy objects, etc.
Unlike mods, CC does not change the way your game behaves. It simply adds more Create-A-Sim items and Build/Buy objects to the game. Since CC doesn’t touch the game code, it rarely needs to be updated, but in some cases, you might need to update or remove broken CC as well.Mesh: Without getting too techy, think of a mesh as the shape or skeleton of an object. Everything in The Sims needs both a shape (mesh) and at least one colour (texture) to show up properly in your game. If a creator says that their CC requires a mesh, it means you need to download the shape of that object from somewhere else. Creators will link to any separate mesh downloads you need, so follow the link to download the mesh.Recolour: A recolour is exactly what it sounds like.
A recolouring of a mesh. Creators can recolour existing Maxis content in the game, or custom meshes made by other creators. If a creator says their CC is a recolour, make sure you also have the mesh for it. Creators will let you know if the mesh is included or where to go to get the mesh.Alpha: CC that is hyper realistic. Alpha CC aims to make the game look as true to real life as possible; however, because of its high detail, it is also more taxing on your computer to render. Most lower-end computers cannot handle a lot of alpha CC.Maxis Match: CC that matches the clay-like art style of the game. Maxis Match CC aims for the exact opposite effect of alpha CC.
It strives to keep the game’s original art style intact and untouched. Maxis Match CC is not as taxing on computers to run, but keep in mind, too much of any kind of CC can slow down a low-to-mid-range computer.Maxis Mix: A mix between Maxis Match and alpha CC. If a player says their game is Maxis Mix, it means they use both alpha CC and Maxis Match CC in their games.
The aim of Maxis Mix is to give the game a more realistic touch without looking too out of place in the clay-like environment in-game. Common Myths About Mods and CC Mods and CC Give You VirusesFALSE. It is perfectly safe to download mods and CC. Creators will not stick malware or viruses into their downloads. Creators create content for the game out of a genuine passion for The Sims; however, many creators host their downloads on sites that have pop-up ads. These ads are often malicious in nature and trick you into thinking that you’re downloading mods and CC, when in fact, you’re downloading a virus.
This can be easily avoided by installing AdBlocker for your browser. The AdBlocker extension will stop those ads from popping up in the first place, making browsing for your favourite mods and CC safe. Mods Will Ruin Your Game ForeverFALSE. While out of date mods can cause lots of trouble in your game, fixing it is as easy as taking the troublesome mod out of your Mods folder.
It is virtually impossible for any mod, no matter how big, to break your game to the point where you can’t ever play it again even after removing it and repairing your game. Downloading and Installing Mods and CCNow that you’re familiar with some basic terms and myths have been laid to rest, let’s go over how to install mods and CC.
How To Install Mods The Sims 4
Thankfully, it’s super easy! So easy that we’re going to cover it in 5 simple steps.Search online for mods and CC you want to download. Some popular places are, and the tag on Tumblr.Read the entire description of the mod or CC you want to download carefully. The creator will highlight any important info you need to know. How it works, what it does, how to use it, how to download it, where to find it in the game, whether it requires a mesh or a certain pack, whether it conflicts with another mod, etc. Everything you need to know will be in the description, so never skim over it.Download and unzip. Download the content to your computer.
It should be in your Downloads folder. If the download’s file name has.package or.ts4script at the end of it, then you’re all good. Proceed to the next step. If it has.rar or.zip at the end of it, you need to extract it. Zip files can be extracted by right-clicking and selecting Extract Here in Windows. Rar files need an extraction program to be extracted.
I use, which is completely free.Move your.package or.ts4script files to your Mods folder. For most people, it should be in Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4 Mods.Start your game and enjoy! Not seeing your mods and CC in your game?
Go to your game options and make sure script mods and custom content are enabled, then restart your game. Maintaining Mods and CCInstalling mods and CC is one thing. Maintaining them is another. Here’s how to keep all your mods and CC in working order in your game. Organise Your Mods FolderIf you just start dumping hundreds and thousands of.package and.ts4script files into your Mods folder, things are going to get messy fast. Pretty soon, you won’t have any idea where to look to find a broken piece of CC or an outdated mod. You can avoid this by organizing your mods and CC into subfolders.
You can organise your content in any way that makes sense to you, but make sure you don’t go more than one or two subfolders deep. The game can’t read files that are buried too far into the Mods folder. Many players like to organise their downloads by creator or by the website they got them from.
Keep Your Mods UpdatedThe number one thing you need to know about mods is that they break. They break a LOT. After almost every single game update, in fact. This means that you’ll be redownloading your mods constantly. If this sounds like too much hassle for you, then mods are probably not for you. If you are willing to keep your Mods folder maintained on a regular basis, then continue reading!
Have a Plan for Removing Broken CCIt’s somewhat rare for CC to break, since it isn’t a mod, but it can and does happen, especially if you forgot to download the mesh for a recoloured hair or clothing item. There are different methods for removing broken CC, but an easy method is to install Sims 4 Tray Importer. If you find CC that isn’t working, make a Sim or build a lot with all the broken CC you have on it, save it to your Library, then open up Sims 4 Tray Importer. Find your broken Sim or lot and look at the list of included CC. Find those files in your Mods folder and delete them.
Repair and Clear Your Cache OftenEvery time you update or switch out your mods, it’s a good idea to clear your cache files. Navigate to Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4 and delete the following:. Everything in the cache folder. Everything in the cachestr folder. Everything in the onlinethumbnailcache folder. The localthumbcache.package fileIt is perfectly safe to delete these files. The game generates new ones every time you run the game.
The cache files are just temporary memory that helps the game load certain things faster, but periodically clearing them out can help with glitches and performance. If your game is acting up and you’re sure your Mods folder is completely up-to-date, repairing the game is a good way to resolve a wide variety of issues. Just open up your game library in Origin, right-click The Sims 4 and select Repair Game from the drop-down menu.
What to do When There is a Game UpdateProblems with mods spike every time the game gets a new patch. This is because patches almost always break mods and many players don’t realise that they have to update their mods after a patch before they can play their game again. Here is the standard procedure to follow when the game gets an update if you are a mod user:.BEFORE updating your game, remove your Mods folder entirely.
You can just move the folder to your Desktop for safekeeping.Update your game via Origin like normal.Do NOT put your Mods folder back in right away after updating. Odds are, all your mods are now broken and will not work with your updated game.
You will need to update your mods first. To update your mods, you will need to return to wherever you downloaded them. The creator will either announce that the mod is compatible with the latest patch and does not need an update, or they will release an updated version of their mod. Give creators a few days to get around to this. They try their best, but they’re still human beings with lives of their own outside of The Sims. Yes, this means you will either have to avoid playing your game for a while after an update, or deal with playing without your mods.
That’s just how the cookie crumbles, I’m afraid. If the creator has announced that their mod is still compatible with the latest update, great! It’s good, you don’t need to update it. If the creator has released a new version of their mod, download the newest version and replace the old version in your Mods folder.ONLY after you are 100% certain all your mods are compatible with the latest patch, put your Mods folder back in Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4.As long as you are vigilant about following these steps every time the game gets an update, you should have very little trouble with your mods at all. Almost all cases of mod problems come down to user error. We hope this guide will cut down on a lot of that and help you mod your game without any serious issues. ResourcesHere is a list of other helpful programs and articles to aid you in your modding journey:This is a mod that makes in-game errors easier to understand for people who aren’t computer-savvy. It will tell you exactly what caused the error in plain English so you can better pinpoint which mod or piece of CC you need to update or remove. This program does a wide variety of things, but one of its functions is to manage and maintain custom content.
